Landscapes that live -

bioscapes.

We design and nurture outdoor spaces that aim to nourish all who inhabit it, human and non human.

Think native Banksias that frame sunset dinners, native blooms that outsmart droughts, and an outdoor seating space that gets visits from the lizards, birds and pollinators that live there too. Our small team sketches by hand first, listens harder than most, and refuses to copy-paste plans because your outdoor space deserves its own plot twist.

Who?

Behind Bunya Bioscapes is Ryan Nebauer. I bring my full self to the table—open-minded, approachable, collaborative, knowledgable and ready to make fantastic outdoor living spaces. I’ve been a Brisbane resident from birth and know the plants, wildlife and climate of our city well.

EXPERIENCE

With over 15 years in the industry, I have worked across numerous companies, gaining exposure to a broad range of landscape and horticultural practices and management. My experience began with maintenance, labouring, green wall construction then into hard and soft scape installation, and most recently design consultation, planning and execution.

Design Process – My creative background in photography, music and cooking underpin a thoughtful and structured design approach. I also studied a diploma in Landscape Design and have worked for some of the most reputable designers in Brisbane. From in-depth client consultations and careful site analysis to delivering tailored, budget-conscious solutions, I aim to create landscapes that are both functional, visually cohesive whilst holding strong consideration for our environment. I work with a strong sensitivity to colour, scale, and spatial flow in every project.

Garden Installation – A key strength and passion of mine, where design intent is brought to life. I execute planting plans with careful attention to soil health, drainage, and long-term garden performance, ensuring the finished space is both resilient and refined.

Maintenance Insight – Extensive hands-on experience has given me a deep understanding of seasonal change and plant behaviour. I recognise how design decisions impact ongoing maintenance and use this knowledge to create gardens that are sustainable and easier to manage over time.

Plant Knowledge – I have a strong working knowledge of a wide range of plant species, including where they thrive, where they struggle, and how they contribute to the overall composition of a garden.

Communication – I value clear, friendly and collaborative communication and enjoy building strong working relationships with clients, grounded in a shared vision for seeing nature thrive.

Passion – Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, I have a genuine interest and passion in this field. It’s what’s kept me doing great work previously and what will be present in my work to come.

Garden Philosophy

How we implent gardens matters - for quality, longevity, financial constraints and the cost or benefit to the natural living environment. We only do work to these standards - for the sake of you, us and all living things.

PRINCIPALS

bunya bioscapes isn’t just a business—it’s a reflection of what we believe in. We’re here to create work that matters, led by a shared commitment to quality and the environment.

  • PEOPLE - The gardens we create obviously need to work for the people who visit them, live amongst them and pay for them.

  • PLANET - The gardens we create only go ahead because they respectfully consider habitats for our friends in the natural world. We use recycled or locally sourced materials. Waste minimisation. No harmful pesticides. Plant selections that give back to the native bee, insect and wildlife populations of the surrounding area. This is the garden of the future that we believe in. There are enough companies who simply do not care in this industry, and we are actively resisting that.

  • POISONS - We want to encourage micro organisms to live in our soils and gardens as they feed our soils. Poison often wash straight into your garden following the next rain. This kills a bunch of our little buddies who are simply making the soil the best it can be. For this reason, we avoid recommending using poisons in the garden. There are often many fantastic creative responses to difficult creatures in your garden.

  • NATIVE PLANTS - We don’t use native plants exclusively, but lean towards them for the most part. Often, they require less water and maintenance (costing you less in water bills, maintenance bills or time).

There are so many of our native buddies that often exclusively rely on the food and habitat of native plants - the Kookaburra, Native Butterflies + Bees and more.

However, some exotics work great in a Brisbane garden and still feed native wildlife, so long as they use a responsible amount of water and are not listed invasive weeds of SEQ.

  • HONESTY - We value your time, we value our time. We offer clear, kind and honest communication to all we engage with.

  • IRRIGATION - It’s a tough one - but really needs to be thought out for each individual space. Some areas are truly best hand watered by a trusty watering can and some areas best suit well planned irrigation.

  • RECYCLED / LOCAL MATERIALS - Take preference in our design every time so long as it’s possible and practical.

  • WASTE MINIMISATION - This includes what’s already on your property. Many landscape companies will encourage you to remove perfectly healthy mature trees or plants to add an extra zero to your quote. We won’t add things into a design unless we think it’s going to benefit you and your space. We won’t go buy endless unnecessary materials from landscaping yards to bulk up your bill. If we can use things we or you already have, let’s do that.

  • GREEN WASTE - Compost. Worm farms. Leaving your green waste on site to break down and return to the soil. We encourage these options where practical.

Let’s imagine your place amongst the trees.

Drop your details below, and we’ll turn pencil lines into plant palettes as soon as we can.
